Industrial Authority History

The Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority (MBCIA) is the lead agency for attracting new business investment, encouraging the expansion of existing industries and improving the quality of life in the Macon-Bibb County area.

The Authority and strategic community partners create a business-friendly climate that results in an increased tax base for the county. Catalyzing job growth and strengthening corporate infrastructure at its various industrial parks are vital elements to its longstanding, successful economic development record. The Authority is an Accredited Economic Development Organization by the International Economic Development Council.

MBCIA was created by an Act of the General Assembly in 1962 and is governed by a six-member Board consisting of the Mayor of Macon-Bibb County, four Macon-Bibb County appointees, and one appointment. The Act charged MBCIA with the responsibility of creating jobs and increasing the tax base of Macon-Bibb County.

MBCIA has generated more than $1.87 billion in private investments, created 3,400 new jobs from industries that include Amazon, Irving Consumer Products, Tyson Foods, Nichiha Fiber Cement and Kumho Tires Georgia.
