About last Thursday Night, we’re even more hopeful about Macon-Bibb’s future than ever after engaging amazing millennials at the launch event. We can’t wait to begin the series of intentional conversations on how to reimagine and create our community of the future. Beyond the rave reviews is the high level of feedback and interest we have received from a broad spectrum of young people residing in Macon-Bibb. We couldn’t share every picture so here a few special moments. We are grateful to our co-sponsors: Seyfarth-Shaw, Carter Strategies LLC, Nine Entertainment, CODEC., and especially our venue host The Ampersand Guild.

I-75 Business Park provides an exceptional solution for companies with expansion or relocation plans. The park has become a major hub for manufacturing, supply chain, transportation, distribution, and transportation services. The latest addition to the park will be a 12,000-square-foot Love’s truck stop located on about 17 acres.
Recently, Love’s Travel Stop & Country Stores, Inc. announced the addition of three restaurants to their facility: Chester’s Chicken, Godfather’s Pizza, and Subway. The facility’s workforce could reach almost 80 employees. Our Properties Committee Chair, Robbie Fountain visited the construction site recently with Don Carter of Carter & Sloope, Inc. (See picture below.) New construction means job creation; that’s our mission and focus.

Our I-75 Business Park is expanding and gaining a new neighbor too. FedEx Ground has a 248,000-square-foot distribution center under construction on Frank Amerson Jr. Parkway in the I-75 Business Park owned and managed by The Authority. We are still waiting on the final numbers regarding the number of jobs created and retained by this expansion but this is great news for our community. To read more about this new expansion, read an article in The Telegraph titled, “FedEx building new distribution center, planning to open in 2017.” This facility will replace a smaller FedEx facility located in Macon-Bibb.

A New First
We convened our October Board Meeting on Monday, October 3rd. This was the first time in the history of the Authority to have as large a number of young people present for a monthly board meeting. Their presence brought a new energy to our work; they were attentive and curious about the work we do. We’re excited about engaging them in the coming months.

We’re taking a look at the increasing popularity and practicality of drones. In the graph below, Forbes examines how drones are impacting various industries. We were fascinated by an article titled “The Construction Industry Is in Love with Drones”.  Drones are helping to improve the efficiency of many industries.

We’re ready to welcome new industries and assist in the expansion of existing industries because The Authority has a proven record of fiscally sound policies and practices. Thanks to our dedicated Finance Team and General Counsel, we have the capacity to attract small, mid-sized, large, and international firms.

Recently, we decided to consolidate our debt, save money, secure better interest rates, and have the capability to pay down debt without penalty. Everything we do is with our community in mind, so our practices are not only aligned to our constitutional authority but to our commitment to building a strong economic infrastructure.

Did you know? The Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority has a 25-plus year record of unmodified audits. Thanks to our Operations & Finance Director, LeVarn Bradford, our legacy of integrity and accountability is strong.

Additionally, the Authority has one of the most comprehensive Local Incentives Catalogs in the state. We are currently working to repackage how we market the catalog. Stay connected to learn more about our best practices in the Fall16 Voices Campaign.

The second volume of the compilation CD of Macon musicians and vocalists will be released on Thursday, November 3rd at the Cox Capitol Theatre.  NewTown Macon began the Macon Music CD project to feature some of Middle Georgia’s best. The Macon Music CD project is in its second year and received 36 submissions. From those submissions, nine anonymous judges chose the top ten to be featured on Volume 2.  Volume 2 will be released following the CD Release Concert, hosted by Friends of Macon Music at the Cox Capitol Theatre on November 3 at 7pm.

At the Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority, our mission is to create, expand, and attract jobs to Macon-Bibb County.  We are the “Lead Economic Development Authority in Macon-Bibb”.
