Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority Report for June 2021

The Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority (MBCIA) held their June board meeting this afternoon. Key highlights from the meeting included details on community partnerships to enhance the industry pipeline, prospect activity, a farewell to two long-time board members, welcoming a new board member, industry job opportunities, property management, and marketing activities.

We said farewell to two board members Walt Miller and Tony Rojas. During Walt’s tenure that began in 2014, he helped secure $2,800,606,000 and during Tony’s tenure that began in 2013, he helped secure $2,850,606,000 in private new investments for Macon-Bibb County.

We welcomed Ember Bishop Bentley as our newest member to the board.

The Executive Director’s Report showed that prospect activity is steady. There are currently 26 open projects with a potential investment of more than $500 million and more than 3,600 potential jobs.

In May, Executive Director, Stephen Adams, sat on the panel for the 2021 GEDA Spring Workshop to discuss a project for Irving Tissue.

MBCIA was integral to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Central Georgia Technical College and Coca-Cola. This MOU will create a pathway that helps create “college and career ready” graduates.

MBCIA engaged with more than 100 Industry partners last month and determined the top concerns for them currently are: COVID-19 testing and vaccines, Public Works (solid waste and beautification), and hiring.

Monthly videos featuring existing industry manager, Eleyce Coleman, are being produced in collaboration with the #maconopportunities campaign to address concerns and share relevant information with all industry partners.

This month’s video highlighted Coleman’s first part of a three-part series on Industry hiring. As a main concern of industries, she is using creative solutions and community partnerships to fulfill these needs.

This installment highlighted a job fair for graduating seniors in mid-May.

The Industrial Authority also has a virtual job fair, located at mbcia.com/virtualjobfair, where all industry job links are available in one convenient location for those who need it.
