The Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority is saddened by the loss of Ron Shipman, a respected leader and public servant. Ron joined the MBCIA Board on December 6, 2022. Though his time on the Board was far too short, his impact on MBCIA and on Macon-Bibb County will endure.

Ron believed that strong communities grow through thoughtful leadership and steady service. He lived that belief wherever he served. At MBCIA, he was known for his calm presence, sound judgment, and his willingness to step in and help move work forward.

Before joining the MBCIA Board, Ron retired from Georgia Power after a long and successful career. In 2022, he took on a new role as President and Executive Director of the Macon Water Authority. Ron approached that role with professionalism, determination, and a clear focus on accountability and practical solutions.

Ron brought the same approach to his service on the MBCIA Board. He believed in MBCIA’s mission and understood the importance of economic development in creating opportunities for people and families in Macon-Bibb County and across the region. Reflecting on his service, Ron once said his goal as a board member was to help make Macon-Bibb County “a premier location for attracting industry, people, and families,” noting that a strong and diverse industry base brings prosperity that everyone can share.

During Ron’s board tenure, MBCIA secured several major projects that strengthened the local economy, including the Irving Consumer Products expansion, First Quality Baby Products, and Boogook Georgia. Together, these projects represented more than $1 billion in investment and the creation of 780 new jobs. Ron took pride in work that delivered real results and long-term value for the community.

We extend our sincere condolences to Ron’s family, friends, and colleagues. His absence is felt across the MBCIA Board and staff, among our partners, and by those who valued his counsel and friendship. MBCIA is grateful for Ron Shipman’s service and leadership, and we will remember him not only for what he helped accomplish, but for the steady, thoughtful way he served Macon-Bibb County and the greater Middle Georgia region.
