Georgia-based Atlantic Southeast Airlines (“ASA”) has operated its Macon Maintenance Center at the Middle Georgia Regional Airport since the early 1980’s. Drastic changes affecting the airline industry, rising overhead, and the loss of revenue flights to Macon led ASA to consider closing its Macon facility and relocating the operation to Atlanta. Instead, ASA was successful in negotiating a maintenance contract and sublease of the facility with a maintenance provider – Bombardier Services Corporation. In December 2009, ASA and Bombardier entered into an agreement with Bombardier becoming the exclusive provider of heavy maintenance services for ASA’s fleet of 150 CRJ aircraft. The Macon Bombardier facility, which began operations on January 18, 2010, is expected to retain 100 jobs, create an additional 60 jobs with capital investment of approximately $1.7 million over the next 36 months. In 2010 the Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority was successful in receiving a OneGA EDGE grant in the amount of $800,000 for building improvements and equipment.

Aspen Products invested approximately $13 million in a 200,000-square-foot facility located in the Airport Industrial Park and will manufacture paper plates, cups, bowls and lunch bags. At full capacity Aspen Products expects to create over 200 jobs. Aspen Products considered other buildings in Georgia as well as an expansion at one of their other locations. Shannon Walls, Plant Manager, East Coast Division, Aspen Products, stated “I believe Macon to be a perfect fit for Aspen Products and everyone from our team that has been a part of this project has shared the same sentiment.”
