Developing Regional Opportunity: The MGGJDA and Georgia’s Megasite Strategy

Economic development doesn’t stop at the county line, and neither do the opportunities shaping Middle Georgia’s future. Through the new Mid-Georgia Gateway Joint Development Authority, Macon-Bibb, Peach, and Houston counties are working together to prepare a 1,500-acre megasite for transformational investment, new jobs, and long-term regional growth.

Leaving a Legacy: Pat Topping Day

Some legacies are easy to measure.

For Pat Topping, that includes more than 15,000 direct and indirect jobs and nearly $2 billion in investment in plant and equipment across Macon-Bibb County.

After three decades of service in local economic development, Pat’s impact can also be seen in the relationships he built, the projects he helped support, and the steady commitment he brought to Macon-Bibb County throughout his career.

Most recently, Pat served as MBCIA’s brand ambassador until his retirement this summer, representing the community with the same dedication and enthusiasm that defined his work for decades.

At his retirement celebration, Mayor Lester Miller recognized Pat’s many achievements with a proclamation, honoring the lasting impact of his service. That recognition now continues each year on August 19, which is celebrated as Pat Topping Day.

Pat’s legacy isn’t just the projects he helped bring to life, it’s about the community he helped strengthen along the way. Congratulations, Pat!

Industry Highlight: Unified Legacy

This August, Unified Legacy broke ground on a new precision manufacturing facility on Barnes Ferry Road, signaling a significant investment in Macon-Bibb County’s growing advanced manufacturing sector. The $125 million project is expected to create approximately 500 jobs over the next several years, strengthening the local workforce, expanding opportunity, and reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to the community.

Unified Legacy’s expansion demonstrates how coordinated local and state partnerships can support continued economic growth in Macon-Bibb County. Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority, Mayor Lester Miller and the Macon-Bibb County Board of Commissioners, the Macon Water Authority, the Bibb County Board of Education, and the Georgia Department of Economic Development worked together to align infrastructure, resources, and economic development support for the project. Strategic partnerships like this help create a strong business climate where companies can invest, expand, and grow right here in Macon-Bibb County, Georgia.
