Key highlights of the May MBCIA meeting included details on two existing industry expansions, prospect activity, a farewell to a long-time industry partner, MBCIA staff recognition, industry job opportunities, property management, and marketing activities.
In April, MBCIA celebrated two new industry expansions—Kumho Tire and Schnitzer. Both industries are investing millions of dollars in enhancing their infrastructure and capabilities at their Macon-Bibb locations.
The Executive Director’s Report showed that prospect activity is steady. There are currently 28 open projects with a potential investment of more than $600 million and more than 3,800 potential jobs.
A proclamation for Lee Smith, a longstanding YKK employee, and community leader, was presented by Mayor Lester Miller at the April 20 Commissioner’s meeting to honor Smith’s retirement and his service to Macon-Bibb County.
The Downtown Rotary Club nominated Finance Director Amy Tarpley for the Hidden Hero award for her tireless work in making the Brookdale Warming Center a success.
MBCIA Existing Industry Manager, Eleyce Coleman, was featured in Macon Magazine’s Women in Business 2021 section. Please read about it here.
MBCIA engaged with more than 100 Industry partners last month and determined the top concerns for them currently are: COVID-19 testing and vaccines, Public Works (solid waste and beautification), and hiring.
Monthly videos featuring existing industry manager Eleyce Coleman are being produced in collaboration with the #maconopportunities campaign to address concerns and share relevant information with all industry partners.
This month’s video highlighted Eleyce’s journey as she received her second COVID-19 vaccine. It also features her visit to Tractor Supply to learn how they’re keeping their employees safe and continuing to work through the COVID-19 pandemic. She also encourages industry partners to contact her if they are interested in hosting a mass vaccination site at their facility.
MBCIA continued discussions with the Bibb County CTAE and Coca-Cola on core curriculum development, creating a pathway/pipeline to funnel students to their facility. They had meetings with numerous other industry partners on the top-three issues mentioned earlier.
