By February 7, 2022No Comments

MACON, Ga. – The Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority (MBCIA) held its August board meeting Monday afternoon. Key highlights from the meeting included details on a large July industry announcement, prospect activity, industry job opportunities, property management, and marketing activities.

Fine Fettle announced in July that Macon-Bibb County will be the location of a state-of-the-art, GMP-certified medical cannabis cultivation and production facility. Construction of the new facility is expected to invest $30-50 million in the local economy.

Site preparation and construction should begin in the coming weeks. Once operational, FFD will employ nearly 100 well-paying jobs in high, medium, and low skill jobs while offering healthcare, employee-sponsored retirement plans, and very competitive salaries. July was a busy month for educating the community on how the Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority is #MaconOpportunities. With presentations to Georgia Realtors, Rotary Club, and hosting Economic Development Day for the 2021 Class of Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Macon program, we were able to share our mission with leaders around our community.

The Executive Director’s Report showed that prospect activity is steady. There are currently 26 open projects with a potential investment of more than $500 million and more than 3,600 potential jobs.

MBCIA engaged with more than 100 Industry partners last month and determined the top concerns for them currently are: hiring, roads, and trash.

Hiring needs have been a top concern of existing industry. To combat this, the Industrial Authority created a virtual job fair, located at mbcia.com/virtualjobfair. Available industry job links are available in one convenient location for those who need it.
